6,291 file nominations

AKOLA: As many as 6,291 nominations were filed for the election of total 291 gram panchayats (GP) in Akola district by the last date of filing nominations on Saturday, official sources said.
The taluka-wise break-up of candidates is: Balapur , 1,234 nominations for 36 GPs, Patur , 532 for 19 GP, Barshi Takli , 857 for 26 GP, Murtizapur , 570 for 26 GP, Akola , 1,245 for 44 GP, Telhara , 835 for 32 GP, Akot , 108 nominations for 41 GPs.
The polls were held unopposed in some gram panchayats, like Viranapur, Shingoli, Malwada, Bapori, Atkali etc. All major political parties like Congress-NCP, Shiv Sena-Bharatiya janata Party, BRP-BMS, JDU, Muslim League and other fronts have started parleys with like-minded groups.
Several political leaders attended the election office to inspire their activists to participate and contest the GP elections. Some seats are reserved for male and female candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC and other categories.
